Money Talks, Nagoya Walks
By Japanzine Staff
The Nagoya Walkathon, presented annually by the American Chamber of Commerce Japan and Nagoya International School, is now in its 17th year, and the organizers promise 2008 will see the biggest yet.
The event has steadily grown since its inception to become the Chubu region's largest international event, with around 2500 people participating. It's an opportunity for the foreign and Japanese communities to join together and raise money for local charities and orphanages, giving everyone a chance to give something directly to the community they are a part of. And it's not just a day of doing laps - it's a great family day out, with entertainment for everyone. There'll be bands, food for all, heaps of fun, games for the kids, and a raffle with great prizes to give away.
Last year's event raised the phenomenal sum of 7.5 million yen, all donated to local charities. This time, however, the organizers are confident they can reach the magical 10 million yen mark. It's going to take a lot of shoes on feet and hands in pockets to achieve, but with your help, 8 figures will be a walk in the park!
There are a number of ways you can lend your support. You can purchase a ticket to take part in the walkathon for ¥2000 (¥1000 for students). You can also become a ticket agent and sell tickets to would-be walkers, and even to people who may not be able to attend but wish to support the event regardless. Anyone can become a volunteer to help with the planning and execution of the event, along with the chance to sponsor the walkathon (both corporate and individual).
The 17th Nagoya Walkathon will be held on Sunday May 18th this year, from 9:15 till 16:00 at Meijo Park (next to Nagoya Castle). For further information on how to support this terrific event, hit the website at www.nagoyawalkathon.com, or give the ACCJ office a call on 052-229-1525.
